I ackwowledge that our neighbors, Joe & Jenny Whalen Schwellenbach, also have their anniversary today, but Im claiming seniority for noting our benchmark 25th wedding anniversary (they are only in the high-teens). I got my brain scrambled, yet I remember our first date at Trotters on Manchester Road, our first kiss in the Dennys parking lot, needing to sleep on the couch the night preceeding my wedding because my grandparents needed a bed, our wedding day, my sister feeling light-headed and needing to sit for a bit during our ceremony and our cruise to the Bahamas on our honeymoon. I still feel quite lucky that Melodee said that she would marry me. In an unromantic location, I asked her while while at the temporary apartment the radio station put me in when I first moved to MN. She has been wonderfully supportive as I dragged her and our 3 kids around the country as I pursued my dream radio career, but that kinda started when I moved to MN for a radio job before we had gotten married. I could not have guessed that our lives would include 4 different cities, 4 kinds of houses, 4 different climates, mutiple radio stations, various kinds of my bosses, various lengths of road-trips at Christmas time yet through it all my wife has remained supportive, smiling and genuinely likeable. I often tell her that I feel like I have a big ol crush on her! After 25 years I truly like her. I have no understanding of the TV version of long marriages that portrays them as dreary. Yes, I like her and am extremely lucky that I married her! (Yes, Janette Wehking, Melodee is smoking-hot.) The only thing that we sometimes disagree on is on her appearance. I think she looks as good, or better than, when we were dating in our early 20s but, she can succumb to the contemporary pop-social-views that she should lose a couple pounds or some other little thing that I completely disagree with. I really do feel like a have a big ol crush on her. In my eyes shes is yummy and I am proud to walk down the shopping mall holding her hand! Her high school BFF may have noticed that she is smoking-hot, but the clincher for me was that inside she is absolutely fabulous! Thats what makes her a wonderful mother, a genuine life-companion and the part that her friends appreciate. I think I married up 25 years ago and I am so proud of being with her evceryday since!
