I agree we cannot differentiate btwn ranks in mourning fallen soldiers (media did that not POTUS) - every soldier lost is a tragedy - but my ? is isnt it obvious the Taliban is sophisticated enough to realize high ranking officers are HIGH VALUE targets irrespective of what POTUS says - not sure I understand how a brief verbal remark - its a tragedy, we pray for those left behind? Im sure he called the family. I think this is an issue of a poor communications strategy across many issues not just military/veterans than anything else. That said, the Press has already gone to town and decided a General more important. Never this much coverage of an induvidual soldier. Thats what id like to see - not just this Pres, has been true of many - they should, even if briefly, verbally acknowledge the loss.
