I almost always go outside at first light (la madrugada) and - TopicsExpress

I almost always go outside at first light (la madrugada) and listen to the birds, watch the delicate change in color, throw a rock at a blue jay so hell shut his gaping maw, to the consternation of the car-owner if I overthrow. This morning was a beautiful crescent moon. There was something just southwest of it (from my vantage point) that looked like a bright planet. No other stars in the sky. Im sure my MFA (my favorite astronomer,) Richard Brown, will know what that was. The reason Im an outdoor dog is that inside stays the same unless I move things around. Outside always moves. And it moves in creative, and unpredictable ways that make me happy. Sitting behind a desk serves a purpose. It is necessary, and I do plenty of it. But getting outside, wherever you live; ejecting or rejecting the focus on media; basking in the daylight even if we dont think we have time but really do even if were the last ones to know it. If youve ever snorkeled over a coral reef, climbed a mountain above tree-line, hiked a trail of solitude through a redwood forest, sat in a duck-blind in Lake Charles, LA, or just took the time to sit on your back porch with no agenda, you know what I mean. I wish that for you and me both. To see the beauty, and to shake that broken wheel out of the rut so we can roll back into the sunlight. To find the balance between responsibility and play so we dont just work, work, work. To turn off worries and cares, and take deep breaths and truly relax and enjoy existence. To view life and society from an angle that may be somewhat left of normal, but nonetheless adds a bit of magic and creativity and smiles to the equation. The outdoors always change. The indoors can too.
