I, along with our party MPs, met the Union Minister for HRD Mrs. - TopicsExpress

I, along with our party MPs, met the Union Minister for HRD Mrs. Smriti Zubin Irani in Delhi on the following issues: 1) AICTE indicated at shutting 34 engineering colleges in Maharashtra, bec of some issues just recently observed by AICTE. 10,000 students get directly affected in one state, many more all over the country. The Minister assured me that NO student will be adversely affected. I requested her to penalize the trustees/ owners if need be, but spare students from this chaos. She has promised a decision that will protect the careers of the students. 2) I have requested the Ministry to establish an IIM in Maharashtra. Maharashtra has a huge talent pool, and yet no IIM has been set up for students here. 3) Another issue was a way to curb donations, may be a comprehensive law against the donations, demanded by educational institutes for admissions, be it primary schools or post grad colleges. Educational Institutes can be allowed legal donations from donors, but holding students to pay, black money, in return for admissions, compromises on the merit. 4) We have Right to Education, but we need Right to Quality, Nationally Standardized, Career Oriented, Affordable Education, while encouraging the spirit of research and development. I thank the Minister for her positive approach on the AICTE issue and other discussions. I truly believe that an IIM in Maharashtra will be a major boost for education in the state. I wonder why the Congress and the NCP, that ruled the state for 15 years and nation for 10 years failed to set up national institutions like IIM and AIIMS in Maharashtra. I will be raising the issue of the failed attempt of setting up AIIMS in 2004 in Mumbai and Nagpur, with Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan soon. There is a way to go, and as we see governments change, we know for sure, we are walking the way of development, for greater good.
