I always have said that playing and learning are different. While - TopicsExpress

I always have said that playing and learning are different. While I have no tolerance for non-musical instruction of any kind, be it metronome, hand exercises, sight deprivation or fretboard nonsense. Oh, and the latest outrage to me is giving students choices of what they wish to work on instead of being told what they need to learn. What does a kid of any age know about what they need? Isnt this why the teacher should be in charge? Anyway,I keep finding out that one can find out a LOT of stuff about yourself if you gig long enough. These last few gigs with Kazumi and Joel are so revealing of my true nature as a player that I am amazed. I approach each gig now as a place of investigation, of revealing as much truth about my playing to me as possible. I found out that I seem to be making more mistakes as I continue on this musical journey due to my willingness to try new playing ideas in front of an audience, no matter the result. I do this because bands that I play with permit this. I dont do this on pop or rock recordings. But if you want to hear about as many mistakes as you may ever hear in a spontaneous, living-on-the-edge instantaneous improv-on-bass-right-the-f***-now performance, no matter the result, no matter the outcome, then Im your man!
