I always love Friday nights….I can stay up as late as I want; Shabbat dinner, the whole thing. But this Friday night is different because tomorrow, 2000 of my closest friends and I will be on our bikes very early as part of the annual MS Bike Ride. I have done this ride for so long that apparently the company that manufactures my bike shorts no longer exists. I was thinking tonight what compels me to do this every single year? In terms of a physical experience, I am never ready for it; always neglect to train; but year after year after year; I rack up those 100 miles one way or another. Eric Spillman did such a great job showing concrete and very emotional examples as to why others ride…and I am deeply inspired by their stories and experiences. Eric’s videos are in the post below this one and I really hope you look at them. Here is my deal; knock on wood – my immediate family and my extended family have long enjoyed good health. Everyone is mobile and able to take care of himself or herself. As we have all learned, MS often robs people of their mobility and their independence. There has been a huge amount of progress since I started doing this bike ride, and breakthrough research is happening now, much of it here in California.
