I always say that the day before your first child is born is your last guilt-free day on earth. But its more than that. As a mother you spend every day battling a strange mix of emotions; guilt, fear, joy, and an overwhelming, all encompassing love that you never knew you were even capable of. Every day questioning yourself and the guidance youre giving them....or in my case, having your own child question your guidance, as Jake did when I told him to punch someone in the face in 5th grade. Always pushing them toward independence, but wanting so desperately to keep them small enough to still rock to sleep.... it cant be done. I tried with McRae, and the feeling didnt come back into my arms and legs for hours. Learning to embrace and celebrate their individuality when you realize theyre going to be who God intended them to be, not who YOU want them to be......also known as, The years you made me play football or feel like a loser, if we let Jake tell the story. Cheers to all of my sisters out there in the world fighting the good fight. Were all in this together, and though we wont always agree on how to get there, we all have the same goal. Enjoy your day and know that you are loved and appreciated....at least by me. And for those that are single parents like myself, a special atta girl. The road seems very long some days when youre exhausted and theres no one to tag in or commiserate with, or youre trying to figure out how to make the $25.72 in your checking account last another 4 days. Remember, there are more of us out here feeling your pain. Reach out. The load is so much lighter when theres someone there to share it with you. And if youre feeling overwhelmed, watch KDs MVP speech and know that even if they dont get it now, theyll get it someday. Its all worth it.
