Last Wednesday nights Bible study. God puts us where he needs us. 1. Last Sundays Sunday School lesson was about good work. In Genesis, we see God putting Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden to work it and watch over it. Genesis 2:8-15 The Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there He placed the man He had formed. The Lord God caused to grow out of the ground every tree pleasing in appearance and good for food, including the tree of life in the middle of the garden, as well as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. A river went out from Eden to water the garden. From there it divided and became the source of four rivers. The name of the first is Pishon, which flows through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. Gold from that land is pure; bdellium and onyx are also there. The name of the second river is Gihon, which flows through the entire land of Cush. The name of the third river is the Tigris, which runs east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it. (Genesis 2:8-15 HCSB) 2. In Genesis 37, we see Josephs dreams, and his brothers selling him into slavery. God used this to place Joseph in Pharoahs court over all of Egypt. Genesis 41:33-44 So now, let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and set him over the land of Egypt. Let Pharaoh do this: Let him appoint overseers over the land and take a fifth [of the harvest] of the land of Egypt during the seven years of abundance. Let them gather all the [excess] food during these good years that are coming. Under Pharaohs authority, store the grain in the cities, so they may preserve [it] as food. The food will be a reserve for the land during the seven years of famine that will take place in the land of Egypt. Then the country will not be wiped out by the famine. The proposal pleased Pharaoh and all his servants. Then Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find anyone like this, a man who has Gods spirit in him? So Pharaoh said to Joseph, Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one as intelligent and wise as you are. You will be over my house, and all my people will obey your commands. Only with regard to the throne will I be greater than you. Pharaoh also said to Joseph, See, I am placing you over all the land of Egypt. Pharaoh removed his signet ring from his hand and put it on Josephs hand, clothed him with fine linen garments, and placed a gold chain around his neck. He had Joseph ride in his second chariot, and [servants] called out before him, So he placed him over all the land of Egypt. Pharaoh said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh, but no one will be able to raise his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt without your permission. (Genesis 41:33-44 HCSB). God placed Joseph in Egypt to provide for his family during the time of drought. Genesis 45:3-7 Joseph said to his brothers, I am Joseph! Is my father still living? But his brothers were too terrified to answer him. Then Joseph said to his brothers, Please, come near me, and they came near. I am Joseph, your brother, he said, the one you sold into Egypt. And now dont be worried or angry with yourselves for selling me here, because God sent me ahead of you to preserve life. For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there will be five more years without plowing or harvesting. God sent me ahead of you to establish you as a remnant within the land and to keep you alive by a great deliverance. (Genesis 45:3-7 HCSB) 3. In the book of Esther, we see God placing Esther in the position of queen. In this position, she is able to protect Mordecai and the Israelites. 4. God puts us where he wants us for a purpose. God also blesses us where we are placed.
