I always want to ask people about their tattoos. For instance, the other day I saw an old guy at the bank covered in Klan and Nazi tattoos, and I was really curious. When did you get those? What do they mean to you? What sort of reactions do you get? What sort of reactions do you *want*? Half the people in this lobby are black: Are you quietly hoping that they are offended? If so, why do you value their offense? Do you assume that other white people will think your tattoos are cool? Do you think that having those tattoos effects your perception of other people? But there doesnt really seem like a polite way to ask.
