I always watch the music awards shows because I am a professor at the no#1 school of contemporary music in the world ?????? That is what they tell me. I am suppose to watch these shows as part of my responsibility to be in the know. Then I look at the BET awards and I dont recognize anything I see. Are we misleading our students? I have seen no talent that matches what I see everyday. I have seen some tight bodies and I know we dont offer dance. It seems success only comes when you have a six pack and some ballons under your nipples. I see dancers who are biting everything Janet and Michael did twenty years ago. No one and I mean no one demonstrates real vocal talent. Oh yes.... and then there is Usher and Nikki. A cacophony! Great dancing, great choreography-no musicality . There is nothing in our curriculum that resembles this show. Who is right? Are we out of touch or existing in some parallel universe. This does not even resemble American Idol or the Voice. I feel like an old race horse. My role now is to spread seed but there is no guarantee vibrant offsprings will emerge. If this is the model , the new standard then I gladly accept my arm chair as I play my old 33 records and remember a time when music mattered. The talent is so weak, you have folks scatting, flying through the air like Circus Solel, and a lot of cussin--half the show is being beeped out. What is the average educational level of the BET audience. Are we talking GED maybe? Damn I wish I would have invested in Asian hair. Black women are single handedly propping up the weave hair industry. It would be so fierce if a bunch of thugs came up in their locked the doors and only demanded the weave!!!!!!!!!!I would love to see that--hair pieces also.
