I always wondered, why there are no good thrillers that are based in small villages. Jeethu Josephs Malayalam film Drishyam fulfilled my wish thoroughly. It works very well as an emotional family drama as well as an edge of the seat thriller. I think, that is a tough rope to balance on. Thought the basic synopsis seems to have been borrowed from the novel The Devotion of Suspect X or its Japanese film adaptation, it is clearly visible that writer- director Jeethu has given it new flesh and blood. It reminded me of Korean master Joon-ho Bongs style of movies where comedy, relationships and suspense elements are mixed for the delightful effect. And it was really good to see Mohanlal in a movie worthy of his potential as an actor from long time. Try not to miss it.
