I am SO thankful to everyone who wanted to help with us in Eastern Washington & the fires. Its amazing to me to see the generosity of everyone! Its crazy how a wildfire can get so out of control that it changes your entire perception on normal. Storms happened yesterday & instead of opening the windows & listening to the thunder & looking for lightning, we talked to the kids about evacuation practice (not wanting to freak them out but wanting to be prepared in case our hill caught fire.. since its one of the few places around this area that hasnt burned yet) and had them show us what they would want to take with them that is special.. The stuff remained in their backpacks until we were confidant our hill up above the new house hadnt caught fire. Im sure once fire-season is over, things will be different and well enjoy storms again. But with the Carlton Complex fire still going (tho it IS 82% contained) everyone here is a little antsy about when well have to fight off the fire next.. I havent really spent too much time unpacking boxes for now. Yesterday we passed 14 National Guard camo hummers heading in the opposite direction as us. I thot they got sent home, but thats another thing thats been kind of commonplace. We usually have a Hummer sitting on our road, only letting local traffic past. Up until a few days ago, we all were living out of fridges that got turned on with the generator for a few hours a day to cool it down and wasnt opened except for very briefly to get stuff out. Now that things are getting back to normal, its almost easy to forget that none of that happened.. But I know weve all changed in some ways at least. Were all a lot braver & stronger then I think we realized. And I know everyone else is too if they were to be thrown in a situation like that as well. Seeing all the generosity of everyone and the kindness from strangers.. Has been such an awesome eye opener for me on humankind. I look back to how I used to get so upset at whether someone acted the way I thot was acceptable or not.. In the end, its just not important. Im so happy to know all of you & to see each and every one of your personalities. Be yourself & be happy. Be proud of your accomplishments and of yourself.
