I am TSIMSHIAN, and belong to the Gitando, my people are from the area of the Shian river, Lax Kaien and most live in Lax Kwalaams, we have a 9 chief system, and belong to certain crest groups, this is the main structure which validates our ownership to the lands, ask anyone if we lost wars, signed treaties, or gave up our right to our lands?? The so called CONferate Canada, set up a system to divide our peoples and forever keep us fight for what really belongs to the real people, by passing laws that are base on European values and beliefs. While our peoples suffer and are just given scraps to fight for and they say they treat us so good, that is BS. Why do they not want to settle with the real owners instead of giving money to the band councils and watch how each village + tribes fight between each others just for what?? They were the true “First Nations.”Not the band councils. They are not, and never can be, “first nations.” Canada tried its best to destroy the first nations. To replace them with the Indian Act agencies is to eradicate our history in place of myth. It is time to stop this silliness and call them for what they are-band councils under the Indian Act. Some just take with out shame hundreds of thousands of dollars while others suffer, look all over this so called Canada, then Media blast the native tribes for abusing the system, but it the system the government developed to divide us so called first nations by the so called INDIAN ACT.And then it is time for the Native peoples to revive their true ancestral national governments by actually studying how we governed what is now Canada for thousands of years without the blessings of western civilization. The Indian Act created the “band councils” which were designed to permit a highly conditional form of local government, entirely dependent on the federal government and without any national standing as defined under international law. Read this completely and see what you think, would you allow this to happen to your culture, they tried to ban it, take away the children, abuse + torture people of the native race, even genocide, then turn around with the media, and say just forget it, it is in the past, well guess what, it is still happening today, and the world just turns it face the other way. That is why I write about this and what is really happening over in OUR territories, THE FIRST NATIONS TSIMSHIAN AND MANY OTHERS. There are people there who have no rights to claim any blood linage to the chiefs and matrlineal system, that pretend and ignore the real people, because they infected by the NDN act system and dirty money. Well that is all I can say now, as i can go on forever writing about this, and never get my carving knives working. My work involves much what is used for feasts and clan elevations. Want to see the real people put up totem pole and validate their rights to the territories, because the Band Councils are not doing anything to revive this part of the culture, as people will see who the real owners are.
