I am a Christian American conservative. When I claim that mantle - I embrace certain values - one of which is personal responsibility and accountability. I dont claim vicitimhood so that I can morally justify taking away the property another person has earned and claim it for myself without producing anything of direct value in exchange for it. One of the most common things we as conservatives speak out against is over taxation, and we blame liberals and democrats for it, but maybe we shouldnt be quite so quick to chalk it ALL up to the statists among us. - In 2007 I had a day job making around $80K and I paid over $30K of it back to government in taxes, and got $3K back at the end of the year. - in 2008 I started my auto detailing business on the side, made over $90K and because of my business expense deductions I paid in about $30K but got back over $12K at the end of the year - As a full time self employed guy, I generally earn around $80K a year, pay NO taxes during the years, and at the end of the year I use about 80% of my available deductions to decrease my annual tax liability down to under $50 for the entire year. Moral of the story? If you are a middle class working family, you are getting scrwed by the IRS. Hard. But it ISNT because of liberal democrats, its because you dont own a business and cant file on a schedule C and dont have access to 10s of Thousands of dollars in legal deductions that anyone who wants to can have access to. And if you are doing your taxes at H&R Block or yourself, dont even get me started. Doing your own taxes is like doing surgery on yourself or representing yourself in court. If the IRS is cleaning you out - dont blame a liberal, blame your accountant - and start a small business of your own.
