I am a biology major(cellular and molecular) and I have been told - TopicsExpress

I am a biology major(cellular and molecular) and I have been told by my professors and academic advisors that I need to chose between this major and softball. I came to this school for the opportunity to play softball and have a major of this type, knowing how difficult it would be. In off seasons we work out 4 days a week and have individual practices 2-3 times a week, along with meetings with the team, coach, trainers, and advisors. In season we have anywhere from 2-6 games a week and practice everyday we arent competing. Athletes do not get priority housing, curved grades or anything of the sort. The one advantage we get is we can sign up for classes early(only for the semester our season is in) simply because we have to keep a 4 hour gap open for practices. With this advantage we still are after the hard working PLP and honors students when we sign up for classes. Last semester the softball team signed up for their classes at 7:00 am on a game day under terrible wifi in a hotel. Majority of the team did not get but 3 or so classes and had to eventually be overridden like any other student would have to do of they didnt get a class. I think I can speak for every student athlete at CNU when I say that it is very time consuming to be on a sports team here. We are a high level DIII school in which most of our teams are top 25 nationally ranked. It is extremely competitive. We do not receive athletic scholarships, so the athletes here are simply putting in extreme amounts of extra time and effort simply for the love of the game.
