I am a liker of many facebook pages that center around self sufficiency and homemade type of lifestyles. I am going to get on my soapbox here and complain about the constant barrage of information out there that says antibiotics and modern medicine are bad things! These websites are ridiculous sometimes. Antibiotics are truly a miracle that save tons of lives. It really irritates me when they put out this notion that abx are bad and homemade remedies are so much more superior and healthy for you. How about a little rheumatic fever or glomerulonephritis or sepsis to go with that pesky little Strep infection? Whats that you say? You gargled with Oregano oil so you should be fine? Yes, your toddler will have no problem fighting off bacterial infections bc you breast fed for 2 years. Seriously, I know that plenty of bacterial infxs go away on their own and Im not advocating that everyone run out and beg their doctor for a Z-Pak but there is just no personal responsibility in the Blog world. People can say whatever they want and innocent uneducated people believe it as gospel. Please be careful and use your good sense when reading these things. There is a VERY USEFUL time and place for complimentary/alternative medicine and there is a time for Western medicine. Just because someone attended an essential oil conference and did a year long apprenticeship from a hippy in a tee pee does not make their medical opinion more valid than your own common sense.
