I am a professional weddings and events photographer and just before Christmas I was asked to supply photography free of charge to a local organisation who are funded by the Arts Council to the tune of £293,000. The organisation is aiming to promote tourism in the local area. Having recently watched my other half fill out an Arts Council Grant form, I was under the impression that Arts Council funding was all about paying artists and creatives not exploiting them? Is it possible to raise concerns about a specific grant and how its being used? Does any one out there have any knowledge of Arts Council Grants? I must add that I havent done any actual work for them, it is existing work they want to use. But I dont supply that FOC either. This is the message I received. Weve been awarded a grant by the Arts Council and Visit England, only one 10 ten in the country and only one of 2 in Yorkshire - to promote our area - Calderdale - as a tourist destination, specifically through our Cultural and Heritage offers. Its a two year project, and we want to ensure that at the end of it, that weve set up enough connections to give it legs. Ive attached our factsheet, so you can see whos signed up to work with us. What Im currently working on, is a couple of information packs aimed at Group Travel Organisers - were off to an exhibition at the end of January - highlighting what we have to offer to people in the area. For it, I need some covers, with lots of lovely pictures of people enjoying themselves in the area. G****m W****e has very kindly consented for me to use some from Lamplighter, Halifax Festival and Halifax Heritage Festival are also letting me use some of theirs, but Im still short of good photos from events held inside venues. Were not selling the packs, the idea is that theyll look so fabulous, well have an influx of visitors to the area!
