I am a proud 1972 graduate of Baylor University. Football was not part of my college experience. We won one game in 4 years that I can remember. One of the most precious memories I have with my Mom is taking her to a game and we almost beat Texas. That was back in the days of moral victories. You know what those were.... I heard this last week about a certain amount of trash talking and posturing that was going on leading up to this game. Big talkers have to bring that big game. Baylors coaches and student athletes handled this game with poise and dignity (except for that pass interference at the goal line) and were such a joy to watch. Right down to that fabulous interception that left one second on the clock. What to do? What to do? Everyone where I was wanted to see Baylor drive one more time. Make one more touchdown. Rub salt into the wound, so to speak. But, showing character that is rarely seen in college athletics today, Briles had the team take the snap. Take a knee. Game over. Then Petty rises and extends his hand upward to the heavens. Elegant salute. Well played, Baylor. Well prayed.
