I am a rookie at this and am anxious to learn more. I have always - TopicsExpress

I am a rookie at this and am anxious to learn more. I have always wanted to do this, and finally took the leap when I was given a trike. I have one husky of my own, but am a foster parent for NLSDR and take on some of the special need northerns. Grissom was one of those special need kids. He is the one in the pictures (the black one is my girl Mishka). Grissom had a lot of issues and I noticed he had a strange gait and would fall just walking down the hall. He gets right back up, but I knew there was a problem. The rescue was great and did everything for this boy humanly possible to try and figure out what was wrong. I took him to Mich. for an MRI, he has had nerve and muscle tissue sent off to UCLA for study and no one has been able to find anything. When the air pressure drops his days are not good. I wont go into all the special things we do to keep him at ease when the weather is bad. Our local vet has him on meds now that seem to keep him in check and ease his temperament so that we can work and interact with him. He has come A LONG WAY in the last three years. Last fall I asked the vet what about letting him pull as he has so much energy! The vet thought it would be worth a try and we started out very slow so as not to do any more damage to his broken body. What I saw totally amazed me. He is great and a natural at pulling - so it seems to me. He LOVES to pull and I truly believe his harness is magic - he has NEVER fallen when in harness and pulling. His gait is a little strange when running sometimes, but his whole heart and soul is in each and every run. He is so much better temperament wise and is doing so much better. Now that fall is here he is starting back pulling me on the trike along with Mishka. He is getting better after a long summer of no pulling and I am hoping I see the same improvement with his hind quarters and attitude now that he is back pulling. I have a new sled for this winter and cant wait to learn the ins and outs of a kick sled. I am ready for snow and so is Griss. Grissom has been put in sanctuary with us and will live his life out here with us. True he is a foster - but he is our special boy and I truly believe in his heart he thinks he is running the Iditarod when he goes out on a run. I am excited to learn from everyone on here, as I said I am a rookie and my team of dogs change with each adoption, except for Griss and Mish so I always refer to my team of dogs as my Special Team. I appreciate being part of this group so that I can learn more. That is Grissoms story and how I became obsessed with my dream of having a sled and trike for my huskies.
