I am a single father. Have raised my daughter on my own with full custody and she graduated last year. Her little brother (10 years younger) and her were figuratively attached at the hip. She wouldn’t even go on dates in high school unless they were ok with him tagging along. She was his best friend and spent every moment of her life with him. Well last year after she graduated she left for the army. A few weeks ago she finally got a 2 day leave to come home and visit. I had seen her earlier (he was in school) and she gave me a “My Sister My Hero” dogtag to give him as a gift. And she was going to be with her grandparents the afternoon he got out of school (my parents). So we decided she would surprise him while I took him out to dinner. When he got home from school I gave him the dogtag and he started crying about missing her so I clicked the voice recorder on my phone as I tried to get him to stop crying so we could go eat dinner (and surprise him). Their grandparents got to the restaurant (we were inside eating) and started the video camera as she sat down next to her brother for the first time since she left. He lost it. -Michael Beck
