I am a step son, a step father, I understand that dynamic. My friend Rochelle took heart for a man who at that time was single father to two. Took in my sons as her own and gave me a son and a daughter. I learned from my Ate Gene and my friend Rochelle that there are no step-children or step families. You are family or you are not in Lakota way of life. The power of relationship holds responsibility and it holds something greater than ourselves that we can share with others, it holds love, respect and a beautiful way of life. As my children send their Mom on her journey I think of the many blended families around here, love the ones around you as your own, especially the children as in the great scheme of things, words matter, your behavior towards others matter so we dont want to treat each other as step anything. What a powerful way the Lakota have that the bottom line is respect and love should rule our day. Thank you to those who offer prayer and condolences for my children and for Rochelles family. The family has moved wakes to Saturday and Sunday with burial on Monday. Have a good day friends, family and community, it is a good day to be a human being, the power of this day is yours.
