I am absolutely saddened by the death of Robin Williams. He made so many people laugh over the years, and I think thats a pretty special thing! As far as the whole suicide discussion goes... I, first-hand, know what its like to be clinically depressed. It is a deep, dark place. And, if youve never been there, you have zero right to judge. I KNOW that place. I know what its like to feel completely hopeless. Ive felt a sadness so deep that, yes, I have been in a place where I thought about no longer being part of this world. I remember driving down the road at 65, literally thinking, It would be so easy...so simple, to just veer off a bit and hit that telephone pole. I never did it...not because Im of some great character, but more likely because Im a chicken shit and my luck, I would of ended up maimed, and dependent on others to feed me and change my diapers. Was Robin Williams killing himself a selfish choice he made??? Yes, Id agree that it was a choice. However, again, those who have never been clinically depressed, should really not even open your mouths. Sure, it was a choice...but let me tell you, depression is NOT rational, and when you are in that dark, sad place, you are not thinking RATIONALLY. Hence, its NOT a rational decision. So, no, I dont see it as selfish. Depression IS a disease. And, we should be sad when someone is so sick that dying is the only way they feel that they can escape the pain. So, so very sad! So, before you place your judgements, and say things regarding this man making a selfish choice, try to remember that you havent walked in his shoes, you havent been in that hopeless place, and....you should pray that you never are, because its a horrible place to be!
