I am an American. I get all teared up and my skin gets chicken - TopicsExpress

I am an American. I get all teared up and my skin gets chicken pimples just at the thought of someone singing the Star Spangled Anthem. It hurts to swallow and I even wind up with raw skin from biting my lip. It has a lot to do with my age I think. That and losing all the family members that served in the military. I don’t mean that they passed during a war. They came home from Korea, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Iran/Iraq, Bosnia, and have served in “peace time” and “terror”. I remember growing up and listening to “the guys” out in the barn, around the poker table, in the garage. They cried. They got drunk. Sometimes they couldn’t say a word—they just would look at each other and say—I know, it’s ok. I learned then about war. I learned about respect. I miss my father and my uncles more than words can ever say. Those men had gone and fought in another world and did things that they never wanted to remember, never wanted to talk about. They did it so America would be safe for our Children. America is full of traditions that are disappearing. (again—my age) Today we were on Hwy 13 and a funeral procession was ahead of us. I told my husband…put on your flashers and stay behind them—it is a sign of respect for the deceased. Don’t pass them. We didn’t. Several did. In that entire time going down the road –and it was a very very long procession—only ONE car going the other direction pulled over and stopped for the cars to pass. What has happened to us? Why hasn’t respectful traditions been passed down to our children? It made me cry. And I read on Facebook all the photos that blindly you are clicking LIKE on that is so horribly disrespectful of our President. To me every time I see this it is a stab to the military. Yes. I mean that. We have a President of the United States of America who is our Commander in Chief of the Military. Stop it. We are showing the world our utter disrespect of our Military. I am proud of our President. He is doing the best he can with what we have given him in our votes with the Senate and the Congress members WE elected. WE elected our President. OUR President. OUR Military. OUR America. I am an American.
