I am certain that what I am about to post is going to bring the wrath of some folks.... But nevertheless, this needs to be said: My friend Ben Brown brought up point that we need to address (again). Now, Ben makes it no secret that he is an agnostic. And to be certain we dont always agree on spiritual matters....but on this particular area, I think we have found somewhat common ground. You see, Ben is a thinker, an intelligent man. And whenever we as Christians say or imply something, it better be grounded in 100% truth, from Gods Word. The discussion was about God showing mercy or God intervening in our lives either through miracles or guidance. One of the big BIG issues I have with the Faith and Prosperity folks is this: They preach and teach that as long as you believe enough and speak the words (as in power in the tongue. The tongue holds the power of life and death) that nothing bad is going to happen to you. Now for those of my friends who are into this philosophy, please read with an open heart. The problem with this theology is......that it is NOT Biblical! You need to read and study the rest of Gods Word. I wonder what the Disciples would have thought of your theology?? I wonder what the Apostle Paul would have thought of your theology?? But there is no need to wonder, read what Jesus said: He said, They hate me, they will hate you. Jesus said there will be suffering and pain and death. No where in Gods Word does it say that you and I are exempt from sickness and suffering!! No Where! Gods Word does tell us that God is our strength and our Refuge. That He is our hope and that He indeed is merciful to us. His Word does tell us He does still perform miracles and that He does intervene on our behalf (even when we dont ask Him) His Word tells us that we are to offer our bodies as living sacrifices!!! I believe that this lie (just believe and profess it) that has been perpetrated on the church has produced more agnostics than it has God loving Christians. You see folks like Ben are not stupid. Even they see through this smoke and mirror deception. They see Christians, true Christians suffering and having difficult things happen to them. And they scratch their heads and wonder. But not for long do they wonder, because Satan makes sure he is right there to set them straight. He says, see.... They lie. They just want your money. They want you to be deceived into believing that all you have to do is.... Now how sad is it when all Satan has to do is tell the truth for him to advance his cause. If we are professing this Faith and Prosperity garbage, we are aiding the enemy. I profess to you that Miracles are performed by the Power of The Holy Spirit and at the Will of The Father our God. Now, does God perform miracles today? I believe He does. Does He do everything we ask? No. If you had the faith of a mustard seed you could move mountains..... Yes. I believe His point was that because we are so flawed, so man that we cannot even have the faith of a mustard seed. I believe Gods Word is true and I havent seen any of us move any mountains. Why, because unless it brings God the glory, why? Why do it? God will someday move these mountains (He says so) but His word tells us that our struggle is not of physical (flesh and bone) but of spiritual matters. Our bodies WILL fail us. Our physical bodies WILL wither and pass away. We Will get sick and we Will be involved in tragic accidents. But God is merciful in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us! That is our Hope, that is future! As Gods children, This earth is not our home and we need to stop acting like it is. The arrogance of the person that believes he or she is exempt from sickness, pain or financial struggle is a slap in Gods face. We are not gods.... We are sinful wretches who need forgiveness of our sins. Jesus died and rose again so that we might have life, and have it more abundantly! He died so that we might not be slaves to our wicked and deprived minds, He died so that we might have the re-newed and restored fellowship with our creator God! But He did not die so that we could go around professing to be little gods. And thats what we are trying to do when we spout out the lies that all you must do is profess it and it will happen. Instead of worrying how healthy we might be or how full our bank accounts might be, we need to be professing Jesus saving power! Stop acting as if this is our home....it is not. There will be sickness, there will be strife and there will be death. But in Jesus, there is eternal life...... In Heaven!
