Detailed account of Migori fiasco. The president started his tour on a good note, First he went to Sony sugar company and met the Members of Migori county assembly . A very cordial engagement. Then he met the farmers and mgt of the factory and listened to their representative who gave a six point memorandum of what ails the sector and needed to be addressed by the president namely 1. Dumping of cheap imports 2. Fertilizer subsidy 3.privatization of factory and giving farmers shares 4. Outstanding arrears from factory 5. Diversification of products to power generationðanol.urged the govt to fund it. 6.restricting sugar Dev levy to only cane farmers and avoid bulking up all agricultural sector players such as coffee and tea as proposed in the new structure in the sector(sugar board has been disbanded). Finally he gave a cheque of 447m He then proceeded to migori but was twice stopped by jubilant crowds at Awendo town and Uriri . Finally he arrived at migori primary grounds which by any standards was small and overcrowded. The sound system was poor. The crowd did not calm down after arrival and kept shouting at governor Obado who tried to calm them down. It forced the president to take the microphone to talk to them to calm down. Two speakers tried to introduce the Mosquito net agenda but were drowned in shouts and poor sound system. In the process of heckling a shoe was thrown and hit the roof of the main tent. From the main tent you could see the chairs being thrown in the crowd. Eventually the president was forced to talk for the second time and the program was rushed . It was not the president the crowd was unhappy with. governor Obado has local issues related to boda boda riders.
