I am compelled to paper my comments and. Concern regard the alleged directive by the goverment to have the mode of instruction in lower primary school be in Mother-tougue.I shall blend my argument based on both an eductionists point of view and media eduction analyst point of view. When I was growing up,indeed the mode instruction at Khalalio primary school where I received ma lower primary eduction was by all standard modern school,the mode of instruction being in somalia right from one to eight.I remember the head-boy conducting assembly prayers in somalia or sometime in arabic with utmost elocution.But one thing that struct out was that our school was predominantly somalia speakers right from headmaster to the smallest standard one pupul who was me.It is right to note that I joined class one at the agef 5yrs. With time a lot has change.So much water has gone under the bridge.Kenya has had changes of govt ever since I joined primary school all with different policies in governance.But sad to say,Eduction policies have not change abit,save for scrapping of art subjects from primary school,which emerged as the biggest blunderf the Kibaki govt.But again,that a story for another day. I find fault with Kaimenyi Ministry instruction that lower primany be instructed in mother-tougue.This pegged down key areass that have escaped this nation scrutiny.The first one is the fact that kenya is becoming an international business and labour hub.This to Say,means that rural to rural migration,rural to urban migration,urban to rural migration and urban to urban migration have become the order of the day as business dynamics and job trasfer dynamics changes.This means that all families of different cimmunities are fuinding themselve living together within same regions.This only means that their children have no option to attend the same school.How for sanitys sake do we expect somalia speaking,kikuyu speaking child and kisii speaking child to under lower primary in mandera? We dont need to study rocket science to understand logic as simple as that! In my worthwhile analysis this would be perfect recipe to destroy achild foundation! My lead question is; what informed the govt decision on this directive? Was there a study conducted to make this decision? Were all the stakehoider consulted priors to this decision? Did they reached a consensus? Did they seek public opinion on this? Or was this just a knee-jerk reaction if so,a reaction to what? I urge the digital government to tread careful on this and not take the gains made over the year in ensuring kenya becomes METROPOLITAN country,And this can only achieved if we speak the same language,literally....!!
