I am disabled. I battle with degenerative disc disease, - TopicsExpress

I am disabled. I battle with degenerative disc disease, fibromyalgia, severe migraines, major depression, and PTSD. Some weeks like this last, I have five doctor appts. Other weeks, I spend in massive pain. These weeks exhaust me! 99% of my weeks, I have at least one doctors appt and some major pain. My hope is to let neither get the best of me. One item that will be of great help is a new service dog (SD). This SD is special because it will be trained to help with all my problems but focusing on mobility. The SD will act as a living cane in that if I start to lose balance in one direction, it will counter balance, helping me to remain upright. Another task will be for it to walk very slowly, one paw at a time, so that I can keep my footing, especially on a few stairs or rough terrain. These tasks will help unchain me from my wheelchair. In addition, this SD will have excellent retrieval skills – I will not have to stretch to reach for something, and it will be able to retrieve specific objects for me. All of these will add freedom to my life by either helping me walk or helping to keep me from injuring my back/body. The program that I am working with to receive this special dog, California Canine Academy – Assistance Dogs, requires a $4000 donation for the combination of a two week camp training me to work with the SD and then receiving the SD. Hence, I have created a page, Service Dog Needed, as a means of giving you information about me and generating unique and thought provoking news articles about dogs in general and especially all types of working dogs. Sometimes there are easy answers to the articles, but more often the articles demand thought – those are my favorite. Too often, from childhood on up, we are “told” how to think, and I try to avoid this when possible. However, I am just one person and a disabled one at that. Hence, my wish with this post is to gain help; there is so much that I could use help with, requiring your gift of time and skills, but no money. With your help, I could achieve more with this fundraiser. I have already met many kind, generous, and amazing people through this experience, and it will thrill me to meet more. Whether it is a few hours of something you specialize in or more on going, I will be extremely grateful! I have a few ideas but it will take help to make them happen! Tell me what you love to do and lets work together to make it happen. One very simple thing everyone can do that is free and takes no more than a few minutes is to visit Service Dog Needed and Like it! Thank you, each and everyone of you! Charlotte DeBaere
