I am growingly worried that given the choice, a group of people - TopicsExpress

I am growingly worried that given the choice, a group of people will almost always choose leadership that is harmful to them. Certainly, our government demonstrates this. We would rather throw our votes away on candidates we readily lament neither of whom represent us than risk the perception of throwing our vote away on one who might. But I digress. I was thinking about even smaller groups still. Specifically, I was thinking about the police union in New York. They clearly have little interest in the welfare of the people of New York, but they dont exist to represent them either. What is more startling is how destructive they have been to the NYPD themselves whom they do represent. Really let this sink in and tell me this makes any sense to you. Facing a growing public scrutiny, rather than take accountability and work to meet that scrutiny, the police union said Screw that! We will prove we are so necessary as to be above reproach in the only way we know how to operate--through punishment. We will punish the mayor precisely by NOT punishing the citizens as much as we normally would. About a 66 percent cut in arrests ought to do it. That way we can still do the stuff that needs done and the public--who for whatever silly reason are mad at us or something--wont think we were so calloused as to abandoned them completely. Eventually, the mayor will be forced to ether concede to our every whim, raise actual taxes, or make painful budget cuts. Its INGENIOUS--so long as the mayor never realizes hes sitting on a massive labor force weve just basically proven about two thirds of which could be considered extraneous... That would be bad.
