I am happy today ! After a gap of 33-34 years, I spoke with Physics teacher from my school today. I was looking for his contact for past 3-4 years but I was not successful in locating and contacting him. I have respect to all my teachers but I have a special place for him in my heart. After my high school was over, I never got a chance to be in touch with him. I moved away for my further education, later migrated to America and it was hard then for me to be in touch with each and everyone as I was struggling in shaping my life and career. My teachers memory got faded eventually till three years back when I went for an expedition to the North Pole and again last year when I ran marathon on the North Pole for the first time in sub zero conditions. Some of my school mates and friends may be curious to know why I remembered only one teacher and not all others.... well, I have a nice story to share. I was in 9th grade and this teacher was our Physics teacher. He had an excellent communication, very friendly person and he used to always joke around and always kept students happy. Because of him, I liked Physics. One day, he was teaching us Gravitation, laws of gravity, relative motion etc. He came with big globe so that students can understand well. He showed globe and told us because of gravitational force, we all are stuck to this planet earth and even though this planet is moving around Sun and self, we are not falling out to atmosphere. Due to gravitational force, we can stand straight etc. etc.... While he was teaching us, I was looking at the globe and I saw India on the globe, I could locate the position of Mumbai where I was living then. India is in Southern Hemisphere. My weird brain was not thinking straight and I asked him a question... I asked him, if I was standing straight right there, that means I was actually standing at an angle and not straight compared to Suns position and could see Sun with an angle but not straight. He looked at me, smiled and told me that he always liked me because I though weird and he also told me that that quality would take me to higher level in my life. (though I did not achieve any height in life but his comments did not stop me thinking weird either :) ). He told me that if I wanted to stand straight and see at Sun straight then I had to go to the North Pole to do that. He showed me where was the North Pole on the globe. He pointed at the North Pole and told me that Thats the place, I would be actually standing straight and looking at Sun straight. He told me that if I ever go there, I should call him to tell him how it felt and he would be proud of me. Somehow, from that day, I had a lot of curiosity about the North Pole and many times I used to dream going to the North Pole. But it seemed impossible. I felt like its going on moon then with temperatures running from -40 to -60 degrees (F or C does not matter after -40 degrees). I could fulfill that dream for the first time in 2011 when I did my expedition to the North Pole and actually ran around with a GPS and stood straight on moving ice floe, 90 degrees north or North Pole (it may be hardly for 20-22 seconds). Yes, my dream came true and for once in my life, I wanted to shout and tell the whole world that YES, today, I am standing straight and seeing Sun without any angle to my body. It was a moment when I really felt that I was on top of the world. That was the moment, I remembered many people.... my family, friends, my loved ones and him. Today, I spoke with him for half an hour. I told him how I felt when I went to the North Pole and he told me that he is so proud of me. I told him that I miss those days when he was my teacher. I wish I was not grown so fast. Mr. Dharaskar (Sir), you were one of the persons who influenced my life. I am happy to say that I made you proud, I am your ONLY student to be on the North Pole. Thank you for being my teacher !! For me, today is teachers day and I am celebrating it.
