I am inspired today to define the idea of partnership further after reading many of your comments here, and on blogs about our discussions. When I looked up partner and partnership in the dictionary, it was a description of a function. It did not define HOW one should function WITHIN a partnership. I believe this aspect needs defining in order to aid our paths towards successful unions. My thoughts are that partnerships should reflect equality, respect and trust. Most people, I realize, dont understand what it means to RESPECT someone. Most people believe if you like or love someone that automatically counts as respect. It doesnt. When one feels one must DOMINATE the other or the relationship, respect can not exist. Without respect, relationships fall into power struggles. One energy spends its time dominating the other, while the other, spends its time fighting for trust and acknowledgement (this happens with our kids as well). In this scenario, trust breaks down and so does the love. Therefore, Men and women, who hold the forces of matriarchal and patriarchal energies, must find a way to respect the necessity for both energies to co-exist. Man and woman must find the emotional intelligence to lead lives TOGETHER, in balanced leadership, in trust, with the intention of BUILDING one another to fortify the one thing we all want...LOVE. The imbalance of matriarchal energy and patriarchal energy creates misery, but its the balance of the two that births bliss. What do YOU think?
