This time, every night, I listen to a station that plays jazz standards and ive noticed that this new crop of female jazz singers, although very talented singers, lack the passion and interpretation ability that Sarah, Nancy, Ella or Billie owned and the communication skills of Gerald Wilson, Benny Carter and Herbie Hancock. Youd be surprised at how some of these young women try so very hard to emulate the original storyteller of some of the most classic jazz tunes and just cant seem to round that corner.
