I am not an economist yet, but in my opinion energy import banns - TopicsExpress

I am not an economist yet, but in my opinion energy import banns on Russia set by the EU yesterday will definitely affect on the economic well-being of Central Asian countries.Especially Kazakhstan, which is the biggest economic partner of Russia in the region might become the victim of these sanctions in terms of economy. Turkmenistan, as a neutral state has already signed a treaty to sell its gas to the Ukraine and yesterday the EU summit concluded to end up its energy dependence on Russia. All these bring more money to Turkmen economy. Azerbaijan also might become one of the lucky countries because it can provide the whole south-eastern Europe with gas and oil instead of Russia. So, how about Uzbekistan? Now, the foreign minister of the country Abdulaziz Kamilov is conducting negotiations with his European Union collegues , and the economic prognosis of the country really depends on the results of that negotiations. However, what makes me worry about is that last year the Uzbek government ratified a protocol to join the Free Trade Zone among the CIS member countries, which makes our economy even more dependent on the CIS. Anyway, we hope for the best!
