I am not inherently against the idea of sports. Games in general - TopicsExpress

I am not inherently against the idea of sports. Games in general are good, they test your physical and mental skills, and theyre good entertainment value for observers. Great way to pass the time. Now, heres my problem. Sports have become a multi-billion (maybe even trillion, considering that a single team from a single sport has a net worth of 16 bil on its own) industry. We could solve so many problems with that money. Help people in poverty. Bring clean water to third-world countries. Cure terrible diseases like cancer, HIV, maybe even ebola. Who knows? But were spending it to fund bitter rivalries between states in a pasttime where there is always a losing team, where those who play games make 20 times more than those who save lives, where fame is given to men with particular builds and no-one else. Its a cultural obsession, a phenomenon that is shoved down our throats on the daily. If you dont follow sports, whats wrong with you? Were you dropped as a kid? Are you just a rebel? Who wouldnt like sports? Do you hate fun? Again, I dont. I am okay with sports. I am not okay with what we allow the sports industry to do to us.
