I am often trying things I find on the Internet (with very mixed results!) but after seeing post after post about using vinegar to kill weeds I had to try it! We dont use any chemicals on the lawn or gardens here. Here is a before and after of the area around the librarys flag pole. I used a solution of 1 gallon vinegar, 1 cup of salt and a tablespoon of dish soap. I used 3 gallons of the solution, but I probably could have gotten away with less. Within a hour most of the weeds were turning brown (and so was a patch of grass we accidentally spilled some on - be careful!)
