I am on strike today because after more than 12 years working as a library assistant, my wage has never reached what the governments own careers website says I could expect as a starting salary. Also because new rules were introduced in 2012 which mean that that salary is the difference between being allowed to bring my wife to this country and not. When the government recommended a pay freeze for public sector workers, they werent talking about people like me. But we got one anyway. I would be content with my job and my wage - although still extremely concerned about ongoing cuts to the service - if it were not for the combined actions of the national and local governments, which mean that it is the very thing preventing me from living in my own country with my own wife.
