I am only going out on a limb with this matter because my name was included without my permission in that New York Times article whilst the real source for the misleading article, Oswald Hanciles, was copiously quoted but not identified by name. The patent inability of Government to defend itself from such unfair impugning, is one of the reasons why I am so happy to be out of that morass. Contrary to claims I went to beg someone today, I can confirm I did not even leave the top floor of my house today. Also, contrary to certain reports, I can confirm that Chernoh Bahs much talked-about US$141,000 worth goods container is spending yet another night at the Ports without being cleared. Believe it or not, with all the noisy criticisms, it is only NOW that DELMAS shipping agency received instructions from Chernoh Bahs partners in America (SEAMATE / SEAROSE) for the containers original documents to be released to Government. Yes, DELMAS Agency in Freetown had been under instructions from the shippers in America NOT to hand over the container to the Government. I can further confirm that Ports Demurrage waivers and Customs waivers were already assured before I left office; The only thing stopping the container from leaving the ports was an ORIGINAL BILL OF LADING from Chernoh Bah. As I stated in my letter to New York Times, just so as to get Chernohs demanded-for payment settled, we had to convince KPMG Auditors with use of a photocopied document that we secured based on the containers registration number. KPMG had initially refused to approve money to Chernoh saying they needed to see an original document but Chernoh had refused to give Government the original BILL OF LADING saying he needed money first. I have issues on aspects of fight against Ebola BUT on this particular issue, Government has been 100% above board; infact, in my humble opinion, having been in the thick of this matter, I can say with all the constraints and challenges, the Government went overboard to please Chernoh because of the Ebola Emergency.
