I am passing this information along to you because your members and friends will probably have questions in the near future. It was brought to my attention by Mr. Dave Gruen of our Communication Committee, that a new movie is due to be released in March, 2014 (Lent), called “Noah.” A trailer is now available online and is also playing in theaters. The movie stars Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson and Anthony Hopkins. The true account of Noah would make a blockbuster movie. Sadly, this movie is anything but true. In fact, it is blasphemous. Here are some of the “highlights.” · The world of Noah’s time is depicted as desert, without any rain. This is caused by man’s disrespect for the environment. · Noah and his family reject society and live off the land, trying to heal the world. · God does not speak to Noah, but Noah has a recurring dream of a great rainstorm. He believes a flood will occur because men have murdered each other and destroyed the environment. · God sent “The Watchers” to earth prior to the time of the movie. These angelic beings were supposed to help mankind “discover” things like fire, metal, etc. However, since men turned the knowledge to evil, these beings have been banished to earth, abandoned by God. They are described by one reviewer as, “18-feet tall, six-armed grumpy angelic complainers who resent mankind.” · Noah convinces the Watchers to help him. He goes through their land to visit his grandfather Methuselah. From his grandfather, he receives a magic seed that grows a magical forest in the desert. He uses the trees to make the ark. · A magical thread of water comes out from the forest, calling the animals to the ark. · An evil warlord sneaks onto the ark and Noah eventually kills him. · Noah believes he and his family are only saved in order to save the animals. He believes that mankind will die out, according to God’s plan. · One of the women on the ark is pregnant. Noah decides that if the baby is a boy, it can live. However, if it’s a girl, he will kill the child so that there will be no new humans. Twin girls are born, and Noah decides to kill them both, but finally can’t bring himself to do it. There are many other things which drive the story even further from the true biblical account. There is a non-theologically-correct review available here, which will provide more information: godawa/movieblog/darren-aronofskys-noah-environmentalist-wacko/ The trailer can be seen here: youtube/watch?v=_OSaJE2rqxU
