I am reminded of Fr. Frank Dunaways senior sermon at Nashotah - TopicsExpress

I am reminded of Fr. Frank Dunaways senior sermon at Nashotah House on the subject of the inherit value of life in all people. His appeal, citing personal, anecdotal evidence along with theological and spiritual argument in favor of the preservation of all life, event those as yet unborn, is a hallmark of my own theology on this situation. I am also reminded of Fr. Chris Culpeppers personal story. Dr. Dawkins appalling exhibition of the logical consequence of a culture of death, and the necessary reality of an authentically atheistic philosophy and worldview, only belies any argument that an atheistic society will be more benevolent and civilized, as he espouses. Dr. Dawkins is to be congratulations. He has taken a position espoused and enacted by Hitlers Nazi regime, (the T-4, euthanasia programs that were the precursor and prototype of the Final Solution to exterminate Jews.) His Nietzche-esque philosophy would enable a subjective evaluation of the merit and origin of human life and claim expediency and convenience as moral behind the name of science. He might as well employ phrenology or some other subjective evaluations or convenient mechanism in order to legitimize his claims. I cannot speak for Fr. Dunnaway or any other parent of a Down Syndrome child, but I am yet to meet a parent of such a person who does not have the deepest gratitude and joy for their family member. I myself, with each of our children, endured the systematic and determined counseling of my wifes Ob-Gyns as to our necessity to test our children ... we never heard them referred to as fetuses ... for Downs so that we would know and be able to make appropriate decisions. The counseling was given as a result of Deborahs age, above thirty for each, and this put us at risk. Jesu, mercy! If the bulwark of the value of life, even when painful, handicapped, or inconvenient, is not kept, then we will soon see it where subjective argument will justify the death of those whom we do not like or whom we do not want to have around us. Sorry for the rant, but this one touched a deep nerve.
