I am reminded of that many times when I’m in the company of a skirt-wearer who is neither too old nor too young. In those days when I was a dotcom fellow, the first thing I would do is to impress her that after God created Adam, he created me. In those days, I would have impressed her by taking her to a place where soda is sold at the price of a pint of blood. Then I would order one of those swallows with names that remind you of chemistry and biology lessons. After that, I would order one of those foods with names that remind you of planets and the stars Now am old if a skirt-wearer happens to be in my company for good reasons, like earning a shilling or two together, my entertainment centre is most likely to be at Super Mambo, where barmaid Wamuyu dispenses swallows and food at the right price. When we arrive there, I don’t give the skirt-wearer the chance to open her mouth ordering things that sound like Smirnoff. I open my mouth very fast and tell Wamuyu, “Give her Fanta ndogo and chips”. I am very specific about Fanta ndogo because I don’t want her to be ambitious and start asking for Fanta half-litre or something like that. I ask for chips for her because I don’t want her to be ambitious and start asking for a quarter chicken.
