I am reminded today of the death anniversary of the last Mughal - TopicsExpress

I am reminded today of the death anniversary of the last Mughal Emperor after seeing the Pakistani Prime Ministers arrival in China on a business trip. Mughal Empire was lost to the British Colonialism after a painful and humiliating surrender. History has a tendency to repeat itself. It took the people of the sub continent more than a century of struggle to get rid of the British empire but they remain under the economic control of the same colonial powers. Financial indebtedness played an important role in the colonial subjugation. There are many causes for militancy, violence, and terrorism in Pakistan. Illiteracy and lack of education is a big factor but the government always cites lack of funds as the main reason for not spending enough on peoples health and education. Those of us who study numbers for a living know that Pakistanis are the most hardworking people on this Planet, both at home and abroad. Their hard work leads to impressive level of exports from the country that brings in plenty of revenue for the Government. In addition, overseas Pakistanis have been sending more than a billion dollars every month in remittances to the country for many years. Even a small fraction of this amount spent on education could have done wonders in the field of higher education and enlightenment.. The reality is that successive governments have been importing foreign goods at inflated prices to benefit a small group of people in control of the country. In the process, they have accumulated massive national and international debt. Interest payments on this debt wipe out any available funds for education and public welfare needs. I have published numerous articles and books where I have shown that foreign capital is the primary source of corruption in Pakistan. Sharifs, their relatives, and friends have built global financial empires by manipulating foreign capital flows in and out of the country. It is no wonder that on a day that country is burning in the fire of violence and terrorism, the Prime Minister prefers to go abroad looking for even bigger financial deals to benefit his family and friends at the expense of poor Pakistani taxpayers who would be paying interest on debts incurred by him for the next hundred years. I would like one of my friends in Islamabad to please send him a copy of Bahadur Shah Zafar Deewan to read upon his return. He aspires to be a modern day Mughal King but he should know how the corrupt and decadent kingdoms end. I was not around on November 7, 1862 to see the sad demise of Zafar but I saw first hand the end of Pahlavi kingdom next door in Tehran. Shah of Iran also could not find a place to be buried in his own country and all the billions he accumulated could not save him the humiliation of dying without a single friend.
