I am running for the 2nd Ward seat on the Fort Madison city - TopicsExpress

I am running for the 2nd Ward seat on the Fort Madison city council because I believe Fort Madison is a great place to live and do business in. I want to see that the progress that we have made continues, with a vision of long term growth with an emphasis on developing and promoting our unique assets. I have lived all my life in southeast Iowa except for 5 years that I served my country in the US Navy. I have also served my community by membership on city commissions. I was on the Electrical Board of Examiners and got the City Code upgraded to allow our electricians to maintain their reciprocity rights with other cities and allow them to convert their city license to a state license without additional testing. I am currently serving on the Fort Madison Historic Preservation Commission (FMHPC). During my term on the commission, I have worked to get the downtown placed on the National Register of Historic Places as an Historic District which will allow the building owners the opportunity to receive large tax credits for renovating their building. I also worked on the Parks to Parks District historic surveys to get a large residential area on the National Register to allow homeowners to be eligible for tax credits for restoring their home. I also am a member of and/or support many community organizations including Old Settlers Park Association, Fort Madison Main Street, Fort Madison Library, Fort Madison Area Arts Association, Old Fort Players, and "Lights, Action, Camera," among others. I work as an electrical foreman for Seither and Cherry Co. of Keokuk, IA and I have been the electrical maintenance foreman on the BNSF swing bridge for over 10 years. I chose to live in Fort Madison and have made it my home for the last 27 years. I have been married 19 years to my wife, Beverly Gobble and have 5 step sons, 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. I have lived through three different downturns in the economy and have had to change course with the times, like many others. I have a diverse background of experience because of it that gives me an equally diverse knowledge base. I will do my best to get to as many people as I can in the second ward before the election, but I know that I that I will not get to everyone. I want to hear what you have to say and if I have missed the chance to talk to you, please message me or give me a call at 372-7802. I believe my background and community involvement will be an asset on the city council and ask for your support and your vote.
