I am sending this message as both a thank you and as an apology. - TopicsExpress

I am sending this message as both a thank you and as an apology. First, I need to thank the countless people who gave up time, in in some cases their entire day, to help make the BBQ a success. I need to thank the people who were there with me Friday night until after midnight, and were back with me at 6:00am. I need to thank the people who helped to clean up after the BBQ, in the heat and humidity. Now the apology...I was all excited about planning this event. It took some time to coordinate the food, music, tables/chairs, etc. But the brunt of the work was before, during and after the BBQ. I owe an apology to many people, who because of me, ended up working themselves to exhaustion. Barbara Mlodzik was at the registration desk, in the sun and heat, until she was on the verge of heat exhaustion. She did not have an opportunity to enjoy any of the events, including the food. Chris Harrison Brechel was at the registration desk most of the afternoon waiting for late-comers. She too did not have an opportunity to enjoy the event. Laura Kelly Novacic spent the night before the event baking a zillion cupcakes, and spent the entire day at the bake sale stand. She also did not get to enjoy the event. It really made me feel bad at the end of the event, when I saw my relatives carrying tables and chairs to the pavilion, covered with perspiration. I cant thank my family enough for all they do to support my crazy ideas. The fire department was there from morning till night, working at the beverage table, setting up misters to keep people cool, running to get more ice, helping to break down tables and chairs at the end, taking the stage back down, and many other jobs. Our fire department does not have the numbers it had years ago. It is a small group of over-dedicated men and women who work hard to keep our community safe. Lou, Kathy, Larry, Dennis, Terry, Karen (Just to name a few), you guys work so hard with little or no recognition. You do all of this so you have the ability to protect us! We all need to step up as a community and give you as much support as we can. I, personally, will help as much as I can at the upcoming Guyasuta Days Festival. To the people who took it upon themselves to sell tickets, I cant thank you enough. We share the love of our town. To all of you that bought tickets to the event, we thank you for your support. I spent the morning looking at messages thanking me for the event. I appreciate the kind words, but 99.9% of the thank yous need to be directed to all of these people I mentioned above. This page will be going away shortly, but hopefully a new one will appear. Next time though, I promise to not put our volunteers in such a burdensome situation. Thank you everyone for your support and your desire to make Sharpsburg an even better place to live!
