I am so shocked to hear the news of Robin Williams dying by suicide. Ive always felt kind of a bond with him. As a kid with the name Mindy I quite literally spent my childhood answering the question, Wheres Mork? This is sad beyond belief. Suicide and depression are complex and emotionally charged subjects, but they shouldnt be something that were afraid to speak out about. The truth is that 80% of people with major depression are never treated. The leading risk factor of suicide is depression. 15% of those who are clinically depressed die by suicide. There are an estimated 8 to 25 attempted suicides to 1 completion. But, 80% of people that seek treatment for depression are treated successfully. Theres no shame in getting help.
