I am so triggered and hurt right now by some ignorant and ableist - TopicsExpress

I am so triggered and hurt right now by some ignorant and ableist posts and comments that involved people I thought were my friends in real life. Although the worst was from a friend of a friend who referred to Aspergers as Ass Burgers and got into an argument with me over whether or not that term is offensive. The whole thing started with a friends post on people who fake having synesthesia. Then in got into fake autistics, people who fake ADHD and people who self diagnose autism or ADHD etc. Im not saying that people dont fake having autism or anything else nor do I say that self diagnosis is always accurate. But for one fake autistics are extremely rare outside of the online troll community and not the same as self diagnosed autistics, many of whom probably are autistic and the test do have some difference that a person uneducated, non-knowledge, non-experienced in autism might mistake for autism when its something else. Still this person struggles with something and needs support and acceptance, not judgements. I think Im extra triggered because some of the people who commented on my close friends 2nd post on her saying she doesnt believe autism and synesthesia are fake conditions, but she is upset about fake autistics and self-diagnosed autistics are real life friends of mine and the OP is both a close friend and a friend in the past who has expressed that she doesnt believe I or another mutual friend really have Aspergers. Plus it felt like a huge dig even if it wasnt meant to be, because while I am unofficially diagnosed so in a sense self diagnosed or undiagnosed depending on perspective, in her eyes, it seems I fall into the not really autistic or fake autistic category. She has routinely railed on Facebook against people who go gluten free without an official Celiac Disease diagnosis. So for some reason she is hyper focused on a really infinitesimal fraction of a percentage point of the population. Plus I routinely post both blogs/articles by autistic people and peer reviewed scientific journal articles on autism and most to all of these friends never read or comment on them. Instead they choose to get there information on this so-called epidemic of fake autistics from places like Cracked, an entertainment site. Its like saying The National Enquirer or Weekly World News is where one gets accurate news from! Im really hurt by this. In every other way, this friend is a kind, supportive person to so many people. She often posts memes about being proud of being different. Yet it seems shes jumped on the autism backlash movement and is pretty firmly entrenched. It sucks. And I did not post the link to frigging Cracked!!!! Facebook did just by me typing their name and I cant get rid of the link!!!!!!!!!!!!!
