I am working on a proposal for a workshop for Killer Nashville (I will post the link to this event below) 10/29-11/01-2015 in downtown Nashville TN. Here is the premise: When a loved one becomes the victim of a crime, the crime survivors discover the media has unconditional rights to the story, usually focusing on shock value. With grief, victimization, and the criminal justice system, the survivors must learn to face the public treatment of their story. I propose a workshop (or panel) that discusses a crime writer’s responsibility to the victims, and best practices in working with crime survivors. I am willing to lead and supervise this workshop. I would like at least 1 parent and maybe 1 close friend of a loved one to join me on this venture. Of course there is much more to the workshop, but we can discuss later via email. Please look over the Killer Nashville info, and consider what I am doing, and if you are available (I dont know the date/time as I just sent in the proposal) - workshops & panels are 1 hr. long.
