I am working on a writing project currently called Our Dream Had to Die - Special Needs Parents Grieving Over Unmet Expectations. This is a subject only whispered of honestly in the most intimate of relationships, but one that weighs on all of us heavily. I would love to have your stories - private message or email, please - about those moments when the reality of what you THOUGHT parenting would be collided with the more pressing reality of the here and now. First days of school where your child had to stay home, birthday parties where your child wasnt invited, little league teams that were no longer even on your radar, church services where you finally just gave up because that was one thing that wasnt really necessary for survival. My preference is to use your first name and the age/gender/diagnosis of your child, but this is certainly not necessary if you wish to remain completely anonymous. This goes out to parents, grandparents, and other caregivers, and please feel free to share with those you know have their own stories (not just in the autism community).
