I am writing on this site and the lost and found pets site to advise people to ensure their dogs are always locked up in their yards...after discussing with mum the amount of dogs going missing in the area (south Auckland) she informs me that it is a well known fact that a Tongan man in her street has been eating dogs...(his maori wife casually mentioned it to a neighbour, his kids mentioned it to the neighbours kids and people have smelt the dogmeat cooking as he puts them on a pit) horrified, mortified and disgusted I contacted the spca who advised me that it is unfortunately not illegal to eat dogs in N.Z, so long as they are killed humanely...wtf??? the only thing the man is doing wrong is eating other peoples dogs, they said I could do a mail-drop in the area advising people to contact the spca if they suspected anyone of cooking dog so they could go and investigate....then they could try to identify the dog to see if it was missing so they could prosecute the man involved with kidnapping an animal (mum had a hissy fit at me doing this as she is worried about this person knowing it came from me so mans family would know it came from her house) ....sooooo then I contacted the courier 2 weeks ago who said they would contact me to get further information and would be interested in doing the story based on the feelings/thoughts of people whose dogs are missing....Ive been gathering data since then on missing dogs and looking into literature e concerning animal welfare in N.Z so I had my facts ready for the reporter...who hasnt contacted me yet...playing devils advocate a friend said the family/man could be hungry, this could be his only way to feed his family, Ive really tried to put myself in this persons shoes but I cant get past the fact hes eating someones family pet, I look at my dog and get tears in my eyes just thinking about this....I hope this message gets out there and reposted, who knows...with enough voices put together and heard, maybe we can change the law regarding the eating of our friends in N.Z
