I apologize for the late update guys, but its been a long and exhausting day for all of us. lol. UPDATE on Jasmine. I picked her up at 1:30pm and brought her to see my vet at 4:30pm. She thankfully was FIV/FeLV negative but it is a good thing we got her in because she did have an abscess as I suspected. Unfortunately Jasmines jaw is in pretty bad shape (as you can see from the photos). I was told that she was hit by a car two years ago. She literally dragged herself off the road after this happened and she was rushed to the vet. She suffered a broken leg (in three places) and a broken jaw. The vet she saw did try to fix it but it was his first attempt at doing it. Unfortunately Jasmines jaw is completely out of alignment and the teeth on her left side are likely the reason she is getting these abscesses because they are digging into the gums and causing abrasions which are allowing bacteria to enter. My vet is quite shocked at how bad Jasmines jaw is. She felt that Jasmines quality of life should be considered and that I should watch her closely to see if she is in pain and to make sure she can eat properly. As always, I am consulting the group about this since you all have helped SO much! Id like to hear your thoughts. These are mine. I guess I feel that Jasmine has been through so much already and its really a miracle she is even alive. She has found a way to eat, even if it is only wet food. And she is very loving and gentle. She may have a deformity now, but as long as she isnt suffering, I personally dont think I would give up on her. It IS a tough decision because there are so many healthy cats who also need to be rescued and we need the funds for them. But, I keep thinking... how can we give up on her when she isnt giving up on herself? Jasmine is a little fighter. Any ways, the appointment today resulted in getting pain medication (anti-inflammatory) and antibiotics. She also requires cleaning of the abscess with chlorhexidine a few times each day. She is here with me, in my bedroom, where I can keep an eye on her and watch her for any signs of pain or troubles eating. Really, we have two options. ONE: Euthanize TWO: in about a week or so, after the abscess has healed, extract all of the teeth on the left side of the mouth (top and bottom). This should prevent Jasmine from developing any more abscesses. Here is the ESTIMATE 5 Difficult Extractions - $125 2 Simple Extractions - $20 Anesthesia - $100 Metacam - $15 Clindamycin - $15 TOTAL with tax: $310.75 (-$31.08 as I receive 10% off) TOTAL AFTER DISCOUNT: $279.67 OPTIONAL Fluids during surgery - $50 Pre anesthetic blood work - $65 THOUGHTS PLEASE?!
