I applaud Ohio Governor John Kasich and the Ohio Department of Transportation(ODOT) for announcing today a pilot project to increase Disadvantaged Business Enterprise participation in the $267 million dollar Opportunity Corridor Project in Cleveland. I worked with the Governor and ODOT and supported efforts to obtain a pilot waiver from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for future highway projects. Without the states commitment, equitable opportunities to obtain jobs and contracts would continue to bypass minority residents on major construction projects in the heart of their own community.
