I applaud Robert Redfords article. However, Redford did not mention that the current KeystoneXL crosses land owned by the Rosebud Sioux, who have refused to permit TransCanada build across the land the Sioux consider sacred. To build a pipeline across this land violates treaties that we made with the Rosebud Sioux in the 19th century. It also violates First Amendment rights. If Hobby Lobby can deny its employees access to birth control because of the religious beliefs of of the owners, the same rule should apply to the Rosebud Sioux. I am not sure if the Rosebud Sioux have filed a lawsuit against TransCanada to block the pipe line. But I would urge the Rosebud Sioux to do so. Perhaps Redford or environmental groups could contact the Rosebud Sioux and offer them legal assistance. I would encourage the Rosebud Sioux to carry their fight all the way up to the Supreme Court.
